“Das erste darum, was wir tun können, um an der allgemeinen Freiheit mitzuhelfen, ist, daß wir selber frei zu werden suchen, soviel uns immer möglich ist.”
– Friedrich Naumann
The Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation is a liberal foundation that is located in Potsdam (Germany) and has offices all across Germany and in more than 60 countries around the world. Purpose of the foundation is to promote liberal thoughts and values. This is e.g. done by educational events and a scholarship program for gifted students.
The scholarships are awarded to students after completing a multi-step application and recommendation process. An application as an enrolled student requires a minimum of two recommendation letters from university teachers. Alongside with good grades, applicants have to describe their respective motivation for a scholarship in a liberal network and show their willingness to be an active member of society. After a positive feedback on the application, the candidate is invited to an interview at the Theodor Heuss Academy in Gummersbach. There the interviewers ensure a personal fit of the interviewee.
Sascha Rudolph was awarded a scholarship of the Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation in 2014.
